Broadway and Broadway Tower at a glance

Most visitors come to Broadway for two things: the village itself, with its High Street, and Broadway Tower, which stands on a hill above it. The tower and the village are separate stops. Give the tower its own part of the day and reach it by its car park or on foot along the Cotswold Way.

The tower site is run as a paid attraction with a museum, a roof platform, a country park and a circuit around the deer park. Plan the tower first, then use the rest of the day for the High Street.

Walking up to the tower

Broadway sits on the Cotswold Way, the long-distance trail that starts in Chipping Campden. The first section from Chipping Campden to Broadway is about 6 miles (9.6 km) and passes Dover's Hill and Broadway Tower. That makes the tower a natural lunch or photo stop on a day walk. Our Cotswold Way guide lists every stage with distances.

If you walk in and do not buy a ticket for the grounds, stay on the signposted public rights of way. The paths are open to everyone, but the museum, the platform and the deer park circuit are for ticket holders. Leave gates as you find them and keep dogs on a lead near grazing animals. The countryside guidance recommends keeping at least 10 m from livestock.

Allow a full day if you plan to walk the whole section and see the tower on the way. Decide before you set off how you will get back to Chipping Campden or on to your next stop, since the walk is a one-way route.

A simple plan for a day in Broadway

One way to order the day, based on the published opening hours.

Morning: the tower

Arrive for your reserved time at the museum. In summer the tower opens at 10:00. In winter on weekdays it opens at 10:30. Park first, since the car park ticket is separate.

Midday: the grounds

Walk the country park and the deer park circuit. Leave enough time to climb to the roof platform before the last entry.

Afternoon: the village

Drive or walk down to Broadway and stroll the High Street. It is a place for a coffee, a browse and a look at the stone houses.

Evening: stay or head on

If you want to stay, see where to stay in the Cotswolds. Otherwise Chipping Campden is the next town along the Cotswold Way.

Staying in Broadway

The Lygon Arms is a hotel on the High Street in Broadway. The hotel lists a spa with a pool, a hot tub, a steam room and a gym. That tells you what the building offers, not what each room rate includes, so ask which facilities are part of your booking.

Broadway works well as a base for the northern Cotswolds, because the Cotswold Way and Chipping Campden are close. Compare it with other bases in our where to stay guide, or look at the full list of towns and villages on the villages page.
